“On Top of Being Wrong… He Makes It Worse” (Palestinian–Jordanian dialect proverb) There was a young man named Basel who was stopped at a traffic light. Suddenly, another car crashed into the back of his vehicle. Basel got out to see what had happened. Before he could even say a word, the other driver jumped out and started yelling, “You don’t even know how to drive!” Basel looked at him in disbelief and replied, “But you’re the one who hit me from behind.” Instead of apologizing or speaking respectfully, the other driver kept shouting, threatened to call the police, and even tried to convince the people gathering around that Basel was the one at fault. A few minutes later, the police arrived. The officer checked the security camera from a nearby shop. The footage clearly showed that Basel’s car had been completely stopped, and it was the other driver who had crashed into him. The officer issued the traffic ticket to the other driver. As Basel walked back to his car, one of the bystanders shook his head and said, “On top of being wrong… he made it even worse.” Because Basel was the victim, yet instead of receiving an apology, he was blamed, shouted at, and accused.
